-
- FileLocator will search devices for a particular file.
-
- Up to 28 mounted devices will be displayed in a gadget list. Any
- partcular device may be selected. There is an ALL gadget to select
- all devices and a NONE gadget to deselect all devices. If a disk
- drive is selected and there is not a disk in that drive, a prompt will
- be given.
-
- When the START gadget is selected, FileLocator will search for the
- file name entered. The following wildcards may be used:
-
- *filename - will search for files that end with the entered
- file name or string.
- filename* - will search for files that begin with the entered
- file name or string.
- *filename* - will search for files that have the entered file
- name or string in the middle.
-
- More about wildcards:
-
- If "info" is entered and if it existed, the following file would
- be listed:
- "df0:c/info"
-
- If "*info" is entered and if they existed, the following files
- would be listed:
- "df0:c/info"
- "df0:expansion.info"
-
- If "info*" is entered and if they existed, the following files
- would be listed:
- "df0:c/info"
- "df0:libs/info.library"
-
- If "*info*" is entered and if they existed, the following files
- would be listed:
- "df0:c/info"
- "df0:expansion.info"
- "df0:libs/info.library"
- "df0:systems/doc.information"
-
- File names may be entered in upper case or lower case or a combination
- of both. FileLocator eliminates case sensitivity during the search.
-
- When the START gadget is selected and the search begins, the START
- gadget converts into an ABORT gadget. Select this gadget to stop the
- search at any time. If the ABORT gadget is selected, the word
- "Aborted" is displayed. If the START gadget is again selected, the
- search will not continue from the aborted point but from the first
- device.
-
- During the search, the device then being searched will be displayed.
- When the search is completed, the word "Finished" will be displayed.
-
- During the search, the running number of file comparisons made will be
- displayed. When the search is completed, the total number of file
- comparisons will be displayed.
-
- Any device file name(s) that match(es) the entered file name
- (with or without wildcards) will be displayed along with the device
- name and/or directory name.
-
- During the search, the running number of matches between the entered
- file name and the device file name(s) will be displayed. At the end
- of the search, the total number of matches will be displayed.
-
- The Files Found display is 14 lines by 41 characters. By scrolling,
- 145 lines by 200 characters are observable. After 144 matches or
- lines, FileLocator will abort the search (ABORTED and BUFFER FULL will
- then be displayed). Any lines longer than 200 characters will be
- truncated at 200 characters without any warning. However any
- truncation should be obvious because part or all of the file name will
- not be displayed.
-
- There is a HELP gadget that displays abbreviated instructions and an
- ABOUT gadget that displays the author, the publisher and ShareWare
- information.
-
- WARNING: The STACK value for this program as set in the icon is 10000.
- (A stack value of 4000 will allow the program to freeze when a search
- progresses more than 11 directories deep). If this program is run
- from the CLI, be sure to enter STACK 10000 prior to running
- FileLocator. This is not necessary when the program is run from the
- icon.
